PLEASE NOTE:

The Application Deadline is December 1

Union TerraceApply electronically through the Graduate School. The MDTP no longer sends out paper applications. You may send an e-mail, snail mail or fax to the Program Coordinator for additional information. Please visit the links provided to the right to learn more about MDTP. Information about faculty can be found in the top menu under "Trainers."

The deadline for receipt of completed applications for the fall semester is the preceding December 1. Applications received after this date may be considered if openings exist.

Applicants are required to take the Graduate Record Examination. The Subject Test in biology, biochemistry, or molecular biology, chemistry is optional. GREs should be taken in October or earlier to ensure that the scores will be available by the deadline. International students are also required to take the TOEFL.

Students are accepted for the fall semester only.

Please note that application requirements have changed recently. The admissions process involves both the UW Graduate School and the program to which you are applying.

MICRO PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Succesfully completed online application.
  • Personal statement, also known as reasons for graduate study (helpful hints).
  • An official copy of transcripts from each college or university attended.
  • Three or more letters of reference from individuals (faculty, staff, supervisor) who can comment on scholastic and research qualifications. These must be sent electronically. (Letter of recommendation instructions)
  • A brief, one-page resume listing academic awards, scholarships, location and length of research experiences, co-authorship on any publications or presentations at scientific conferences (Click here for a copy in MS Word; here for a pdf version).
  • GRE scores: Have your scores sent to the University of Wisconsin-Madison by specifying code 1846. You do not need a department code. The subject test is not required but is recommended.
  • NOTE: Any student whose undergraduate instruction was not in English should also submit results of the TOEFL examination. The code for the University of Wisconsin-Madison is 1846.

  • Apply on-line.
  • Financial documents are required from international students AFTER the program's recommendation for admission. You may review this information here.
  • Last, go the Graduate's School's Checklist to make sure you are sending required materials to the correct location.

M.S. PROGRAMS

The Departments of Bacteriology and Medical Microbiology and Immunology both offer M.S. degrees that have no direct affiliation with MDTP. Students interested in obtaining either of these degrees should apply to the appropriate department.
